Things I Learned under the Traveler

  • Life is better when you roll with your boys.
  • No one said you were the good guy, or had to be. You decided how you were going to respond to that question.
  • You have to dance every now and then. Don’t pretend you don’t enjoy it.
  • Bad people can have good reasons for what they do, and this does not make them any better.
  • Dumb greed is a mob motivation; succumb to it and you will always find yourself with company.
  • The truest of all personal freedoms is the freedom to try again and decide when to quit, whether in victory or resignation.
  • Clear communication and a sense of purpose, together in the right people, can kill even gods—recall the story of Babel.
  • When moving through dark times, it helps to follow the light of others. If you see no one else to follow, you are now leading.
  • There is a choice everyone is offered: you can be with the takers or be with the givers—you do not need eyes to see the pathways into which these will take you.
  • Just as some people can be full of light, some people are full of darkness. They carry greed so deep it becomes like gravity, at times so strong the world becomes reshaped by their avarice.
  • The past does not always matter—don’t use the person you used to be as an excuse for not becoming who you are.
